Crum Residence

A common problem, especially in urban settings, is a lack of usable outdoor space. The Crum residence in Huntersville was one of those projects...a town home with a very small patio and an over-grown garden area. The homeowner really wanted a space where he could sit, relax and enjoy watching the birds.

Before

We started by clearing out most of the old plant material and starting over with plants that were better suited for the harsh urban conditions and small space.

Again, clearing out the old material was necessary. We were able to extend the patio just enough to open up the entryway, as well as create enough space for an additional seat. The minimalist approach to the plantings will ensure that maintenance is simple.

Screening the unsightly A/C unit with a simple lattice is a quick and easy solution that can be employed in many situations. Once the plant material was cleared out it became apparent that a drain ran through the space. We dressed up the concrete with river rock and finished the bed off with a fresh layer of mulch.

Horne Residence

At the Horne residence in Gastonia, a little went a long way. It's amazing to see what a difference a few plants and some mulch can make. This was a mid-winter install so some of the plants are dormant, but the evergreens really pop against the mulch.

New Year, New Goals

I started this blog with really good intentions...intentions of keeping up with it, posting before and after pictures of all of our jobs, and as a way of drawing in clients. I failed. I spent a few hours piddling with the layout and the various options but nothing more. So as a New Year's resolution of sorts, I'm going to do better. Over the next few weeks I'll be adding lots of pictures as well as our plans, specials and goals for the coming year. Please check back often and Happy New Year!
